So I'm going to jump the gun and assume that no one has heard of this or participating, but correct me if I'm wrong. =] "The National Day of Silence brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. This year’s event will be held in memory of Lawrence King, a California 8th-grader who was shot and killed Feb. 12 by a classmate because of his sexual orientation and gender expression. Hundreds of thousands of students will come together on April 25 to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior." -Day of Silence WebsiteI myself am participating. Any others or know any one who is participating in it?

It's a pretty big thing at my school. I try and participate, but it's hard for me. So usually I'll do it just at school.

We do sponsored silences all year round. They get a bit boring after the 3rd each year

Well I lasted a short amount of time. I can't stay quiet. I tried. But there were people doing it without knowing the basic meaning of it. They thought the only reason it existed is because of Lawrence King. They also believed that they had the right to stay quiet even if the teacher asked them to answer, which they don't. It's right on the site. Idiots. So much for having a GSA when they can't get things right.

If we show our teachers that we're doing this [we wear a randow ribbon pinned to our shirt] they don't call on us.. So that makes it that much better. haha We are required to sing is chorale though.

Well that makes sense, kind of the point of the class. I like that idea though. Everyone who was doing it as a group look so awkward. They wore all black and rainbows.

^lol talk about an oxymoron. I forgot about it, I didn't go to school. But usually people at our school just stick tape or of some sort to their mouths and the teachers don't call on them.

We have a day of silence in school, but it's mainly for gay support.
