For, i have lived in countries where they have the penalty, and in countries where they dont have it, but i think that it puts others off crime, but it should only be used in the very worst of scenarios, and it should be quick, torture should not be used in my opinion.

depends on what the person did.

I agree with Kute. It depends on what they're being convicted of.

And it also depends if it's been proven without a doubt, that the person committed the crime. There have been innocent people on Death Row, who have been freed after many years.

I'd only bring it back to Britain for monsters like Ian Huntley and the Moors Murderers. People that had been found guilty and were serving life. If there was any chance that the person coudl be innocent it shouldn't be used, but if they'd confessed and they had enough evidence then I'm for ir. Controvercial issue though

But is death better than living your life in prison?

For, only for murder and only if there is absolute concrete evidence that they did it. I do believe the whole 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind' thing, but with some people, they don't deserve to live anymore, especially in our fancy pancy prisons today, where they get three hot cooked meals a day, TV's, regular exercise and access to modern gyms...god knows what else...

But is death better than living your life in prison? As Scaryhair said, they live a better life in prison than most people do in a normal home. So yes, death is better than prison in the cases I previously mentioned. In priosn they have personal TVs, iPods, laptops etc etc. which a lot of people don't have through honest hard work not crime

I'm torn on this one. I hate the idea of killing someone, but then again if it's necessary and would benefit society as a whole, then it could be worth it. Especially for 1st degree murder.

They may have all those things, but they don't have freedom, and they risk the chance of being raped, killed or whatever. I prefer letting them suffer. One of our neighbors went to prison in his 20s for setting another neighbor on fire and killing him. He'll grow old in there and die, which he deserves to do. I think making them suffer would be a better punishment,. Once you're dead, it's over
And i agree, they have way too many luxuries.

Seriously, prisoners in British prisons wouldn't ever be raped or killed in prison, tehy're too busy playing on their PS3s. They'd all rather stay inside than have freedom, it's an easier life. Why should a murderer get more than an honest citizen

They don't get that here. A kid my mom tutored is in prison, and they had a choice of getting packages or a tv in their room. They chose the tv. They have a bad roach problem too.
